Fall is officially here and I’ve got to tell you, I’m excited to start my traditional holiday baking. Every year I look forward to the start of fall for just that purpose. From October through December I’m usually found in the kitchen baking up this or that, testing out new recipes and providing my family with a host of yummy holiday baked goods.
Although I look back on the sugar coma my family found themselves in from last year with fond memories, I decided that this year I’d do things a little differently and hunt for recipes that were a little healthier than my average holiday crack recipes. Although I’ll definitely be making some of my old favorites, I can’t wait to incorporate some new ones into the mix as well. So far I’ve found some really yummy looking recipes that not only sound delicious but meet my need for healthier ingredients.
I’ve put together a list of the most promising looking recipes that I’ve found so far and hope my readers enjoy them as much as my family will this holiday season!
Everyone knows that sugar cookies are practically a staple during the holidays. Whether you add sprinkles, sugar, chocolate kisses or in this case, frosting, you can’t go wrong with a good sugar cookie recipe!
This is one of my favorite recipe because it’s so simple I could do it with my eyes closed and as an added bonus it’s also a great project to work on with the kids. They’ll love being able to use their own thumb to make the imprint in the middle.
Who doesn’t love graham crackers? I know I certainly do, especially if there’s a toasted marshmallow and chocolate wedged in-between them! I’ve never heard of a graham cookie before but with my love of graham crackers I couldn’t help but add these to my list.
Just like gingerbread men, you can’t celebrate the holidays without incorporating peppermint into your recipe lineup. Add in the goodness of meringue and the decadence of chocolate and you have these delicious Chocolate Peppermint Meringue Cookies!
Drizzled in dark chocolate, which is proven to be healthier than milk chocolate, this recipe is packed with yummy peanut butter while keeping to a low sugar content. So, you can have your cake (be healthy) and eat it, too.
Nothing says fall quite like pumpkin and nothing satisfies a sweet tooth like chocolate. Gluten free and vegan, these super moist cookies don’t have any added sugar or artificial colors/flavors so they make the ideal Halloween treat.
Right up there with vanilla, coconut is one of my favorite flavors but when I came across this sugar cookie recipe that incorporated coconut I was sold. After all, how can you go wrong when adding one delicious ingredient to a classic recipe?
Thin mints have been a part of my life since my childhood years of girl scouts. I crave thin mints all long but as everyone knows they’re pretty hard to get your hands on all year around. So, when I found this recipe I wanted to give it a try to see how they compared to the original.
