DIY Homemade Twinkies Recipe

Homemade Twinkies Recipe

How many of you thought it was some silly joke when Hostess announced they were going bankrupt in 2012? Well just in case that happens again, I wanted to share with you this DIY Homemade Twinkies Recipe!

Apparently, the union workers went on strike, and Hostess just couldn’t afford to carry on. Understandable. But Twinkies lovers were heartbroken, and were determined to still get their Twinkies fix. Such as myself. In fact, I knew there had to be a way to get that yummy goodness at home, and sure enough, after some research, came up with this, much in thanks, to the Twinkies Cookbook:

How to make homemade Twinkies

Twinkies Ingredients

  • 16oz golden pound cake mix
  • 4 egg whites, beaten till stiff
  • 2/3 cup water
  • Twinkie Mold Pan

Cream Filling Ingredients

This is the perfect Twinkies mold pan, made by .. who else? Hostess!

Twinkies Pan Cavity Molds

Directions

Heat oven to 325º. Beat eggs whites till stiff. Add in cake mix and water and blend for 2 minutes on medium speed (this is why I love my KitchenAid, but you can save a ton and get this Hamilton Beach Stand Mixer for $35!). Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. While waiting on the Twinkies, go ahead and beat the shortening or oil and the margarine together till creamy. Add in the powdered sugar and beat on medium for 5 minutes or until fluffy. Add the vanilla and beat for 2 minutes on medium. Your cakes should almost be ready by this point. Let them cool off and grab a straw and poke 3 holes in the bottom. Add the cream filling to a pasty bag and push cream into the holes until full. Voila! Homemade Twinkies 🙂
