How To Keep Doughnuts / Donuts Fresh Longer

Love those fresh-from-the-oven, store-bought doughnuts (say, from Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’, or mom & pop), but can’t devour that delicious dozen in less than 24 hours? I know hubby and I can’t (and no way I would let my kids try)! We’ve had a a couple of doughnuts left after a few days of purchasing, and I can’t stand how hard and icky they taste past the next day or two. So I decided to do some research on How To Keep Your Doughnuts Fresher, Longer!

Store Doughnuts in Ziploc Storage Bags or air-tight containers

This tip is good if you do, indeed, plan on eating the doughnuts the next morning (and the box has been opened). Place doughnuts in a Ziploc baggy or air-tight container. You can refrigerate them overnight (no longer!) and then pop them in the microwave for about 5 seconds to heat.

Freeze Doughnuts

If you don’t plan on eating them the next day, you’ll want to store them in a Ziploc baggy or container and freeze them to stop the “aging” process (so scientific ;)). Then, when the urge strikes, pop them into the microwave for about 10 seconds and they should taste as good as new! You can keep doughnuts in the freezer for up to 3 months.
