Assortment of red, white, blue crayons
Toothpicks
Vegetable oil cooking spray
Donut pan or muffin pan
The crayons, toothpicks, and spray can all be purchased at your local dollar store making this project just $3.00 to pull off. If you don’t have the small donut pan as shown you can use any small cookie mold or cupcake pan. Thrift stores are a great place to find these!
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
2. Pick your red, white, and blue crayons out of the box.
3. Have your children break them in half and remove the wrappers on them.
4. Spray your pan generously with cooking spray.
5. Drop a few crayon bits of each color into the cooking tray.
6. Pop in the oven for 30 minutes, checking the status every 10 minutes or so.
7. Once the crayons are melted in to a liquid, remove and allow to cool. Swirl the colors with your toothpick for a more creative effect.
Once cooled, the crayons should pop right out! If they are being stubborn, place in the freezer for a few minutes. Once out and cooled, they are ready for use. These are perfect for an afternoon of doodling, to give as patriotic party favors, or to just pass some time on a boring day. Kids will love watching the crayons transform into something new and exciting, and you will love that you pulled this craft off for just a few bucks!
So what are you waiting for? Happy doodling!
