Football enthusiasts are gearing up for one of the biggest sporting events of the year – the Big Game. Whether they’ll be tailgating at the stadium, watching from their favorite watering hole or hosting a gathering in-home, football fans never miss out on an opportunity to make Big Game Sunday a memorable event. From stocking up on their favorite beverages to preparing a feast worthy of the event to subscribing to the best sports package for uninterrupted viewing, a football fan is truly in their element for this special day on every sports fans calendar! Of course, being a football fan myself and living with a man who is also deeply into the sport, I can’t help but to do my part when it comes to preparing for the event.
Every year on the eve of the game, I start preparing a fabulous feast (because, come on, there’s no denying that good eats + a good game = great time)! In years gone by I’ve been host to not only family, but friends as well, who have all praised my culinary efforts on game day. Each year I’ve taken a lot of pride in being able whip up some great recipes, appetizers and main dishes that were the talk of the party. This year my friends and family will enjoy more party favorites like my homemade breadsticks and football-shaped garlic cheese dip spread (with homemade herbs de provence), in addition to old favorites like wings and popcorn. As I was going through my list of meal prep so I could cross my ingredients off and remind myself what I needed to run out and get before the game, I realized that it wouldn’t hurt to beef up my menu just a little bit. I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of time in the kitchen, adding more complicated menu options, but I did want to be able to provide a little bit more of a variety for my guests to enjoy.
Red Baron® pizza and Edwards® Pies always come through for me – they are my go-to for an inexpensive pizza night (I personally think Red Baron® is the best frozen pizza on the market – my fave is the brick oven style!), and I cannot get enough of Edwards® Georgia Pecan Pie, no matter the season)! Their frozen pizzas are not only super affordable but, quick, too, and after spending so much time in the kitchen making the appetizers, the last thing I want to do is make homemade pizza and dessert! Popping a yummy pizza into the oven before my guests arrived would ensure that I could save time by not having to make more food from scratch. From past experience I also knew that Red Baron® pizzas were also quite tasty too, so I had no qualms about having to run out to my favorite Target store and picking up one before game time. Red Baron® is a great solution to being convenient without having to sacrifice the delicious taste that my family and friends had come to expect from my parties on game day.
But, like I said earlier, I always make something from scratch for get-togethers like this, and this time, I made homemade breadsticks and my famous Garlic and Bacon Cheese Football! Here are the recipes!
Garlic and Bacon Cheese Football
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ¼ cup sour cream
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon herb de provence
- ½ cup real bacon bits
- A few slivered almonds
- In a small bowl, soften the cream cheese at room temperature (or in the microwave for 20-30 seconds). Combine the rest of the ingredients except for the bacon bits and shape into a football. Pour bacon bits onto a plate and roll the cheese football until coated. Use the slivered almonds to create the cross-laces.
Easy Homemade Garlic and Ranch Breadsticks
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 cup oil
- 3 cups bread flour
- 2 1⁄2 teaspoons yeast
- 1 packet of ranch powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- ¼ cup Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup butter, melted
- Combine all ingredients in a bread machine or large bowl with a mixer.
- Roll the dough into a 10x12 rectangle and cut into strips.
- Twist each strip and place on a non-stick cookie sheet. Cover with a towel.
- Let breadsticks rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
- Brush with butter. Sprinkle with garlic salt, ranch packet, and Parmesan cheese. If you wish, spread a little of the Garlic and Bacon Cheese Football dip on them! Best when warm.
